How to extend the
elastic on Huggies Pull-Up
training pants and Huggies
Diapers to fit larger waist sizes. This new-and-improved method
requires no gluing once you make the two straps! You can extend
the elastic on a fresh Pull-Up or diaper in seconds! WOW!!! You
sure are a big kid now!
You'll need two Huggies diapers for the extension straps, and
a hot-melt glue gun (or strong adhesive tape). Some elastic (from
a Pull-Up) and a Velcro fastener would probably also work, maybe
even better. It would be more durable.
Lay out the diaper to expose the two back "velcro" straps that connect to the front. Cut them both off. Carefully, using scissors, round the sharp corners of the stiff plastic velcro tabs. If you don't do this, later, when it is attached, you will get very itchy because it will scratch you with its sharp corners!
Use a hot-melt glue gun (or strong adhesive tape) to connect the two velcro straps together at the middle, with the sticky parts on the ends, sticky sides facing the same way.
You may want to use adhesive tape at first, to get the length right (after attaching it to a Pull-Up, as described below), then glue it later after you've adjusted it. If these prove to be too short, you can glue some elastic (from the sides of a Pull-Up) in the middle of the two sticky ends. Y
Fold one end of each strap, sticky side on the inside. This part will connect to the front of a Pull-Up or diaper.
Make two of these straps - one to extend each
side of a Pull-Up or diaper (see below).
Cut down the middle of both sides of the elastic on a Pull-Up.
Connect the folded sides of the straps to the front of the Pull-Up by folding the sticky part over the elastic strap (the Pull-Up is on the right, and the strap is on the left). The folded-over sticky part really holds well!
There is a trick to this to make the velcro hold even better: Hold the velcro between your fingers and squeeze. Then try to pull the elastic from the Pull-Up out of the velcro. This will actually make it grip better. Experiment with this if it doesn't hold well.
Stick the other end of the straps on the back elastic of the Pull-Up. Again, if you hold the velcro on the elastic and try to pull it, the velcro will hold stronger.
Once the Pull-Up is used, you can easily remove the elastic straps and re-use them again on another Pull-Up. Since the elastic can be re-attached, you can also adjust the tightness of the Pull-Up. Nice!
Follow the steps above for a Pull-Up. Here are some pictures of it connected to a diaper, if you're having problems:
For the back strap, you may have trouble sticking the velcro fastner from the back of the diaper to the strap. If it doesn't stick well, you can glue/tape a piece of elastic side from a Pull-Up onto the strap itself (on the outside of it, not over the velcro fastner!). The picture above shows a strap with this modification. With this modification, the strap can be used for both diapers and Pull-Ups!
Enjoy!
